About the Carbon Cycle
The Carbon Cycle was conceived, designed and built by Trevor Rumbold
(WebComms4U Ltd - Director) and initially put into use on 25 July
2001. To see an example of the Carbon Cycle in use on 8th July 2007
at the first Frome Festival Green Fair - Somerset, visit
our Picture Gallery - Illuminator was there too!
The Carbon Cycle was born out of
the need to attract visitors to environmental awareness events and
particularly to highlight the importance of energy efficiency. At
that time, Trevor was working for the Ministry of Defence and was
heavily engaged with the topics of Energy Efficiency (including
Renewable Energy), Water efficiency, Waste Management and Environmental
Management Systems. Trevor built the machine in his own time and
with his own resources and loaned it to the Ministry whilst he was
employed with them - it proved a great success at every event where
it featured.
The display is self powered by means
of the rider and a small rechargable battery and hence does not
cause a safety/trip hazard resulting from mains power cables. On
a full charge the Carbon Cycle will easily last an event day. The
footprint of this display is 0.5 m x 1 m with a height of 1.4 m
and requires a suggested minimum clearance to adjacent displays/objects
of 1 m.
Trevor took the opportunity of early retirement
from the Ministry at the end of March 2006 and started WebComms4U
Ltd, a small web design and maintenance company under which he is
offering the Carbon Cycle and a growing resource of other unique and
novel environmental awareness displays for hire.
